Another Way To Use Zucchini – Tempura Dinner

As summer progresses, gardeners often are overwhelmed by a surplus of Zucchini. Here’s a quick and simple way to cook the bounty. Another Way To Use Zucchini – Tempura Dinner

We decided last year to try growing greens and other vegetables in our greenhouse over the winter. We are happy to report that we are successful growing them in our greenhouse! Now we’re on the verge of growing a new crop of sweet potatoes.

Irene and Henry have been living off grid full time since 2005 on a 43 acre off grid homestead in the high desert of Northern Arizona. Situated at 5280′ elevation, we enjoy four seasons of beautiful scenery and weather about 60 miles south of the Grand Canyon.

We grow most of our green beans, peppers, yellow beans, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, squash, garlic, and herbs. Specialty crops like asparagus, sun chokes, and lavender are supplemented by foraged foods including wild ground cherries, prickly pear, and other native plants.

Electricity is made using solar panels and one 400W wind generator. We power our buildings in two groups: Irene’s studio by itself, and house infrastructure: house, greenhouse, and workshops.

Thanks for joining us on our continuing journey.

Take care.

What happens to our FARM ANIMALS when we go on vacation? 🚗

Each morning on our one acre farm in the city of Phoenix, Arizona, we start the day with milking goats, feeding pigs, and gathering eggs. We have a small plot of land, but boy, do we make the most of it. Each animal on our farm is taken care of holistically & organically. We let the mama goats raise their babies until they reach 10 weeks of age and are naturally weaned from nursing. We keep a small herd of 5-7 milking goats, mainly the Nigerian Dwarf breed, although we still have the queen of the herd, Luna, our Nubian goat. We use the fresh goat’s milk to make cheese, butter, cream, and we use it in all sorts of baking & cooking. We love that we can walk into our backyard and gather food. It’s the best feeling ever!

After the morning chores, we usually tend to the pond — we’re always adding new pond plants and fish to maintain the delicate ecosystem of our natural swimming pool. Our backyard farm is full of adventures, and we’re so happy to share our farm vlog with you. Hopefully you can feel inspired to grow something of your own, or care for an animal with kindness like we strive to do. Thanks for watching!
